DT Swiss ARC 1400 Dicut DB 80 Carbon Disc Tubeless Ready front wheel

ARC 1400 Dicut DB - The DT Swiss wheel with a perfect synthesis of acceleration, aerodynamics and handling - even in the most challenging conditions.

The sophisticated ARC 1400 DICUT wheels represent the latest DNA of the 1400 level of DT Swiss and the aero partner SWISS SIDE. Available in disc brake version in three different rim heights (80 mm, 62 mm and 50 mm), the AERO+ profile rims set a new standard in aerodynamic performance and keep aero drag as low as possible under different crosswind angles. In moderate side wind conditions, riders benefit from propulsion through a sailing effect. Reduced wind sensitivity allows riders to maintain a stable aerodynamic position and full control of their bike. High-end DT Swiss aero spokes and the light 240 DICUT hub with its reliable Ratchet EXP system for more direct engagement complete this wheelsets.

Technologies

Tubeless
Tubeless ready DT Swiss rims have further advantages over conventional rims. The design of their cross section allows for the tyre to easily pop in place when inflated, and more often than not a standard floor pump is all that‘s needed. Also the elaborate profile of DT Swiss rims ensures a precise and safe fit of the tyre even when ridden hard.

Dicut
The Dicut line is a perfect combination of aerodynamics, technology and design. The hubs are a perfectly adapted geometry and straight traction spokes offer the necessary rigidity.

Aero+
The Aero+ technology has been developed in cooperation with DT Swiss's aerodynamic partner Swiss Side to optimize the new Endurance wheelsets, the ERC 1100 Dicut® foremost. It describes manufacturer's approach to optimize a wheelset via numerous engineering techniques all through its development process. Aero+ is based on three pillars: drag, handling & efficiency.

  • Drag: Reducing the drag of the wheelset – and the complete system of the rider and his bike – is one of the three key points of the Aero+ technology. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation and a special black box process set the base for the development of wheel prototypes, which are then tested in the wind tunnel. Hereby DT Swisss can verify that the wheel has low drag numbers at all yaw angles and a smooth stall behavior.
  • Handling: The complete bike only makes up for 25% of the overall drag, the wheels even less at 8%, while the rider causes 75% of it. So why is the wheel still important in this calculation? In order to stay aero in the first place, you have to stay comfy no matter the riding situation, because only then will you be able to keep an aero position, which affects those big 75%.
  • Efficiency: Comfort, grip and rolling resistance define efficiency. Wheels have a direct and important effect on how the tyres perform regarding comfort, grip and rolling resistance. These factors play an integral role in the Aero+ concept, because you can only stay aero, when you stay in control. Wider rims – like DT Swiss use them in their Endurance category – support wider tyres better.

Ratchet Exp

  • Simple maintenance: DT Swiss hubs are also known for the notool technology. DT Swiss also found a way to further improve this system and make maintenance even simpler, by a small change of the endcaps.
  • Freehub body conversion: Simplified due to easier disassembly.
  • Less Weight: Not only the reliability improved. The fusion of ratchet and threaded ring reduces the number of single parts of the system what offers an important advantage.
  • Less Wear: A single cylindrical spring ensures faster full engagement and thus increases reliability
  • Superior Reliability: The full engagement of the ratchets creates a large contact surface and therefore low surface pressure that leads to superior reliability.
  • Increased Bearing Lifetime: The integration of the bearing into the threaded ring allows the bearing distance to be maximized. The increased distance further supports the axis, which results in less deflection of the axle and thus protects the bearings and increases their lifetime.
