Tubolight spent one entire year with world’s best athletes, testing different solutions of sizes and compounds, looking for the best combination between flat protection, speed, shock absorption, stability and weight. Studying how pinch flats occur and how tyre inserts interact with the tyre and the rim, Tubolight moved material right where it needs to be, over and outside of the rim bead. Even though the new shape is shallower, the portion over the rim bead is increased by 30% to 60% depending on rim width, and together with an harder compound, rim hits are drastically reduced.

The air channel between insert and rim acts like a valve. During a shock, part of air molecules inside the tyre move from the outer portion of the insert into the channel, causing a difference in pressure. As the insert is very tight on the rim, those molecules gets trapped and take a fraction of time longer to re-establish even pressure between the outer and inner portion. That means, in the real world, rolling resistance and tyre rebound are reduced.

The centerpiece is the Rundling made of a specially created PE compound with extremely low density (16 kg / m³). In contrast to products from other manufacturers, this not only makes it very light, but also unsusceptible to liquids and sealants. Tubolights do not absorb sealing milk! By using the resistant material, the puncture protection remains effective for a long time and defies even slight damage. After assembly, the puncture protection centers itself and takes on the shape of the rim in the lower part. This has the advantage that it protects where it should protect - on the rim flange. At the same time, it increases the pressure of the tire bead / sidewall on the rim, which in turn prevents unwanted tire burps and thus prevents air loss. Tubolights have excellent emergency running properties on flat terrain, which allow them to reach their destination and completely protect the rim even if the air in the tire is completely lost.
