Fulcrum Wind 40 DB 19C 2 Way Fit AFS wheelset
A "package" of superior technical solutions, aerodynamic details and quality materials that can be appreciated by all
It could be said that Wind represents the right wheel for the right moment: all of the most widely appreciated and sought-after features in a disc brake racing bike wheel are combined in the new, perfectly balanced design, boasting cutting-edge technological features in the most popular profile heights. It is interesting to go back to the very beginning, to the origins of this new project, and to note how the evolution of the hugely popular Racing Quattro Carbon models triggered a true revolution: a totally new wheel upon which each and every key component has been changed and improved - the rim, spokes and hubs are all new, conceived to work in harmony as a complete wheel offering impeccable performance. The new rim, which has been redesigned for use with the new, more generous tyres, is expertly crafted from several layers of carbon, culminating externally with a modern unidirectional finish.
A winning mix of performance, solidity, aesthetics and riding pleasure, without resorting to more extreme solutions reserved for the top models offered by the competition. When designing the new Wind profiles, the R&D department made full use of the aerodynamic skills and knowledge gained during the studies carried out in recent years, which led to the development of the profiles now used by Fulcrum's teams on the World Tour, introducing these into a different context but with equally high standards of excellence.
The Wind rims profile feature a very wide aerodynamic design (27 mm) with an extremely pronounced 8 mm profile, which shows its true potential when it comes to aerodynamic penetration, creating an element of continuity with the tyre without interrupting the flow: dissipative turbulence is thus prevented, with maximum control guaranteed, even when not riding into a headWind. The inner channel of the rim offers everything any rider could possibly wish for: it is 19 mm wide and boasts 2-Way Fit construction - and as such is tubeless by conception. This ensures that it is perfect with both 25 and 28 mm tyres (and can also be used with 23 mm versions), enhancing the shape of more generous tyres and creating an uninterrupted profile with the rim described above.
Another construction detail that provides an idea of the level of care taken when designing and creating the new rim is the Mo-Mag™ technology it boasts - a source of a real added value for the carbon structure: holes are not required to fit the spokes, no changes need to be made in order to switch to tubeless tyres, and there is no mechanical processing to interrupt the continuity of the carbon filaments. This increases the solidity and stiffness of the rim, delivering truly thrilling sensations in the saddle.
To complete the set-up, and to ensure that the rim can express its full potential, the wheel features 24 straight pull spokes, with aluminium hubs that have been painstakingly finished using CNC technology. The use of monoblock aluminium ensures that the hubs are not subject to any of the torsional stress created by the asymmetrical nature of the drivetrain and disc brakes, while the uniform design of the spokes enables the traction forces to be absorbed in an equal, balanced manner during sudden and forceful movements and braking. The new Wind DB will be available in the most commonly requested and widely appreciated configuration for high-end disc brake wheels: AFS ™ discs and HH12-100 mm through axles on the front and HH12-142 mm on the rear. This native configuration does not use any form of adapter, and as such, guarantees maximum overall precision and rigidity.
In terms of the freewheel body, there are no limitations with regard to the choice of drivetrain, as all options are already provided for: Shimano HG11, XDr or Campy.
Today, Wind wheels represent much more than the entry point to the carbon Fulcrum range - it is a choice of substance, which transforms the character of the bike from the first few metres of riding. It is the response to a clearly expressed desire: with Wind, the intention was not to push every detail to the limit, but rather to unite individual features with one another, creating a "package" of superior technical solutions, aerodynamic details and quality materials that can be appreciated by all, enabling every rider to give their bike an intelligent upgrade and above all, delivering guaranteed satisfaction!

Disc specific rim
Fulcrum® is one of the first wheel manufacturers on the market to offer two completely different rim profiles from disc to conventional brake. So, no adaptation, but a rim conceived based on years of design experience. Not requiring a braking track, Fulcrum®’s R&D department designed a completely new profile, aimed at saving every single gram of weight and at improving aerodynamic efficiency. Its greater width makes it a perfect fit for tyres of 25/28 mm upwards.
What is MoMag™? A magnet and lots of ingenuity. This was what led to the patent for the well-tested “Mounting Magnet” system, or MoMag™. How does it work? The nipples, once inserted inside the rim via the valve hole, are “guided” to the point of connection with the spoke by means of the magnet. This simple but ingenious system makes it possible to have a wheel without holes on the upper bridge, but with spokes tensioned by traditional nipples! Advantages: No holes on the rim means that the rim is uniform at every point, free from stress points or zones of weakness and, for the clincher profiles no rim tape is required, to the benefit of weight reduction. The advantages are immediately clear: greater rim lifetime, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility to give the spokes greater tension, and greater stiffness which, in terms of performance, mean greater reactivity and acceleration. But that’s not all. The advantages also include extremely quick and simple maintenance and spoke replacement. All to the benefit of cyclists who choose Fulcrum®.
Undrilled Rim Bed
No holes on the bridge connector means that the rim is uniform at every point, free from critical areas subject to stress.
The advantages are immediately clear: less weight, longer lasting rims, greater resistance to fatigue, the possibility of giving the spokes more tension and more stiffness which, in terms of performance, means improved responsiveness and acceleration.
Rim full carbon technology
Full carbon Fulcrum® rims are built using combinations, developed in the laboratory, of different types of fibre, including UD and the famous 90-degree 3K of models at the top of Fulcrum's range.
To build them Fulcrum developed a special HTG (high transition grade) resin, whose glass transition point is at a higher temperature than any other fibre used in the bicycle industry. This gives incomparable performance when braking.
RDB™ Rim Dynamic Balance
The concept is simple and elegant: balance the weight of the gasket, with an item of similar weight placed on the exact opposite side.
For carbon bike wheels the principle is the same, but applied using a different technology. When making carbon bike rims, the pieces of carbon fabric are aligned in such a manner that the resulting rim is always balanced.
DRSC™ - Directionated Rim-Spoke Coupling
Exclusive rim/spoke coupling system. It allows the rim, spokes, nipples and hub to align properly with the same tensioning value in all areas.
This new system raises the concept of spoking to a new level of performance for road bike and triathlon wheels ( and mtb too).
The Fulcrum® engineers have redesigned the spokes and the hub housings to create a solid and unmoveable whole. The result is that the spokes:
a) will never lose their initial tension, thus keeping the wheel perfectly reactive and centered;
b) will remain in the position that have been studied in the wind tunnel tests to ensure the best aerodynamic penetration possible.
F.I.C. Fulcrum Identification Card - 100% Handmade quality
Right from its inception Fulcrum® has been marked by feature that continues to this day: that is to design, prototype and industrialize all the wheels characterized by the red “F”.
Indeed these take shape inside of the R&D, the leading-edge department that represents the beating heart of the Italian company.
Every single component of the wheel, the materials chosen and the technologies applied are the tangible result of the effort that Fulcrum® makes every day to give you maximum performance and reliability.
A guarantee of quality
The keyword for Fulcrum's products is: traceable.
If you find a little label attached to any Fulcrum® product, do not remove it. It will provide you a guarantee in case of an ascertained defectiveness of a production batch, and so the component needed or wheel will be traceable.
All this because, devoted to its mission, Fulcrum® demands the absolute perfection and safety for its customers.
AFS Axle System™
The Axial Fixing System™ is the solution developed by Fulcrum® to fix the disc brake to the hub. The constraint granted by the butt area of the release mechanism, greater than in familiar standard ones, makes it possible to obtain greater structural rigidity and therefore more precise and powerful braking.
Tubeless technology was first used by the auto industry , then by motorcycles and now has reached the cycling industry. After its debut with mountain bikes the moment has come to "put it on the road", and that's what Fulcrum propose to do. They've developed 2-Way Fit™ technology to ensure the perfect compatibility of tubeless rims with normal clincher types and tubes. 2-Way Fit™ wheels are perfectly multipurpose for tackling every situation.
Thanks to a special impression in the valve area, the tubes are fitted with the maximum precision while keeping the tube perfectly stable inside the tyre. Housing the valve for tubeless tires is also risk-free, with the unquestionable advantage that there are never any air infiltrations caused by non-ideal positioning when fitting. The advantages are indisputable: the tests have highlighted an unique increase in smoothness. Because there is no tube, the friction caused by rubbing against the tyre is eliminated, while the perfect adherence of the tyre to the rim prevents the dispersion of energy.
Tubeless tires do not suffer from sudden deflation when punctured which is a great advantage in safety terms. There is also no risk of snake bites as there is no tube to rupture.
