Wilier Filante SLR - The aero bike has a new benchmark

The natural evolution of the high-end aerodynamic bike used by professionals. Filante SLR is an extremely light aero bike that dramatically improves the ratio of torsional stiffness to weight, stiffness to weight. Wilier used the same materials and technology used in the construction of the Wilier 0 SLR. The result is a top-of-the-range, aerodynamic frame that complements the pure climbing bike now used by Astana Premier Tech and Total Direct Energie.

Aerodynamics
Filante SLR was designed to give maximum aerodynamic performance in real-world conditions. The study was based on wind tunnel data (where the wind is very clean for consistent empirical results) while also taking the real world into consideration. In doing so, we do not only evaluate typical wind tunnel data (yaw angles from -20° to + 20°) but we also consider the turbulence in the environment that interferes with the bike for the most diverse reasons.
For this reason Wilier has redesigned the profiles, starting from the NACA / KAMM standard but no longer with sharply cut edges on the rear. Softened corners therefore, which allow better performance even when the airflow is disturbed.
The inside of the front fork has been widened by 7mm and is therefore 13.6% wider than on the Cento10PRO fork. In doing so, Wilier has moved the fork stanchions further away from the wheel, reducing turbulence and thus improving aerodynamics.

Light and responsive
New, aerodynamically optimised profiles have saved additional weight in the construction of the frame. The shape without a sharp edge requires less material and less resin in the corners. Thus the interior is more homogenous and allows the frame weight to stop the needle of the scales at 870 grams.
The bike assembled to top specifications weighs 6.8 KG.
The carbon used to build the Filante monocoque is the same as that of the Wilier 0 SLR. Thanks to the different types of carbon used together with Liquid Cristal Polymer, the special positioning of the fibres and the construction technology, we were able to achieve an absolute level of lightness and stiffness.
The lower overall weight in relation to the very high level of torsional stiffness has increased the STW by 12.5%. This improvement is clearly noticeable in the steering precision and the feeling of safety you get at high speeds.

240 Fittings available
With the steerer tube no longer beveled, we can install up to 35mm of spacers below the crease. By combining frame measurements, fork measurements and spacers we can thus obtain 240 different fittings, without any overlap between one combination and the next. This figure doubles if we take into account the two available seatposts, with either 15mm or 0mm setback.

Integrated handlebar and cables
In addition to its low weight (350 grams for size 101x42), the new integrated Filante Bar handlebar in monocoque carbon accommodates the brake and control cables inside, routing them inside the frame. It has an essential design, with sinuous and rounded lines to ensure maximum ergonomics when gripping.

Easy-Fit spacers
The spacers interposed between the head tube of the frame and the handlebar are made of high-rigidity composite material, with a special cavity dedicated to cable routing. They consist of two parts so that they can be fitted and removed quickly, without interfering with the cables that run between the handlebar and frame.

Balanced Design
Six sizes, one feeling. The tube sections in the various sizes are designed so that stiffness, ride quality and comfort are the same on each different frame size.

Speed Release pins
These pins allow rapid removal of the wheel from the frame without having to completely remove the axle from the wheel hub. This solution significantly reduces wheel removal and fitting times. In competition a wheel change saves an average of 7 seconds compared to a traditional thru axle.
